I had been thinking about a solution of the problem faced by builders working alone who have to place and fasten glued plywood sheets in the open joint time of the epoxy especially in hot weather, and decided to incorporate in the design of a a method where the sheet sizes were minimized and the scarfs done on the job rather than on the bench. SCOOTER uses three scarfed panels each side on the bottom; so the builder can use 6 small sheets on each side of the bottom. This means that a builder each evening and clean up excess glue. This leaves the weekend free for mowing the lawn. The plywood panels are lapped on stringers and the addition of the spray rails in similar positions adds great longitudinal stiffness to the vessel . Four buoyancy compartments are provided. The external skin is sheathed in GRP. She is very fast with a L/S 10HP outboard and quite satisfactory with a 10 HP engine. She has been a great success.
