Following on the successful SCOOTER it was decided to draw a larger version with a cuddy cabin to provide some shelter in inclement conditions. The design also has incorporated boarding steps or platforms port and starboard on the transoms at the suggestion of the first purchaser of this plan package Mr Trevor Jones of Caloundra, Queensland. They add to the design both functionally and in appearance. The construction methods are similar to those used in SCOOTER. Again the materials are plywood GRP sheathed in epoxy.
Trevor Jones wrote on launching : -
"Well OD365Q hit the water and congratulations - she handles like a dream, laughs at the chop, and is a rocket when opened up. I ran at half throttle most of the time and must have been doing 15-20knots. While going down the passage at this speed a 5m Quintrex with a 70hp motor came roaring up from behind , so when he was alongside I opened her up and left him in my wake.
When I slowed down he pulled alongside. He wanted to know what type of boat it was as he said he was doing 23 knots and couldnt keep up with me. Could this be correct? I tell you if you open her up she jumps up onto the plane in 10 meters and if you trim her up a little she flies - even at half throttle. In one hour of testing at normal running and back to 6knots in the required zones we used 4.5 litres of fuel. I cannot believe it.---- This is with 2 100kg+ blokes on board."
